Community Health, We Care

WHO IS LRF?

Life Relief Foundation (LRF) is a registered Non-Governmental Health and Social Developmental Organization (NGO) founded in Ghana in 2000, to promote good health, and environmental sustainability in Ghana and to protect the rights of both children and women. Today, LRF is one of the country’s local NGOs with long-standing records of achievements in implementing and monitoring HIV and AIDS programs in the country since 2002, predominantly in the Western Region. LRF is committed to contributing to the reduction of new HIV infections among female sex workers, the general population and their non-paying partners.

With over 20 years of experience, Life Relief Foundation (LRF) has built its organizational capacity and systems to manage complex donor projects. LRF has been a recipient of USAID and US Embassy Ambassador’s funding on HIV and AIDS for Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly(STMA), Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly(EKMA), Ahanta West, Ellembelle and Jomoro districts including an Ivorian refugee camp in the Western Region.
The organization is the first NGO in Ghana to establish community-based home-based care services, developed a training manual and trained community-based home caregivers for PLHIV and OVC.

Trained models of hope and assisted in the development of “My Life Positive Living Tools”. In addition, the organization identified and developed individual data for 600 Orphans and Vulnerable Children(OVC) in Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly(STMA) and Ahanta-West. LRF over the period has also received USAID funding through AED SHARP (2006-2009), SHARPER project FHI 360 (2009–2014), BCS project, Johns Hopkins University (2011–2013), SCASO World Vision Ghana (2011-2013), Linkages project and the USAID ‘Strengthening the Care Continuum’ project (2016 to date).

Currently, we implement FSW and General population-focused intervention as part of the USAID ‘Strengthening the Care Continuum’ project in the Sekondi –Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly(EKMA) and Ahanta West Municipal Assembly(AWMA)in the Western Region. LRF ensures service utilization across the entire HIV care cascade for FSW and GP. Through peer educators, FSWs at the community level are receiving education on HIV and STI prevention and GBV. Positive FSW are enrolled into care and initiated on antiretroviral therapy (ART) through the support of trained case managers.
