Care and support for PLHIV/AIDS

The concept of community-based home care and support services initiated by Life Relief Foundation can go a long way to alleviate the pain and suffering of terminally ill patients to enable them to die a dignified death.



The organization implemented the following activities in the year with the aim:

  • To provide care and support in greater community involvement, thus, reducing stigma and discrimination to effectuate a positive attitude and support environment for PLHIV.

  • To meet the needs of HIV-infected and affected people including orphans in their homes with their families and communities if possible.

  • To provide the necessary information, skills, care, material, emotional support and services to PLWHA’s affected families and orphans.


Activities undertaken during the Project period include:

  • Community meetings with Stakeholders (Opinion Leaders, Chiefs, Assemblymen, Religious Leaders, etc).
  • Radio discussions on Care and Support and Positive living with HIV/AIDS.
  • Organized Focus Group Discussions in five (5) selected Communities.
  • Identified, Registered and Counseled PLHA.
  • Organized home visits for some selected PLHA.
  • Administered ARV therapy to PLWHA.
  • Supplied nutrients, drugs and condoms to PLWHA.

  • Provided Financial Allowance and Support.
  • Formation of the Association of PLWHA and monthly meetings of the Association of Persons Living with HIV/AIDS.
  • Consensus Building Workshop for Medical Practitioners in Shama Ahanta East Metropolis.
  • Identification and Training Workshop for Community-Based Home Caregivers.
  • Documentation of Community-Based Home Caregivers Training Guide.
