Behavior Change and Support Project

Community prevention on 5 thematic areas Malaria, Family planning, water and sanitation, Maternal and child health and Nutrition.

The Ghana Behavior Change Support (BCS) Project being implemented in STMA in partnership with the Life Relief Foundation (LRF) focuses on fostering positive health practices in households and communities in five (5) thematic areas namely; malaria prevention, family planning, nutrition, maternal, neonate child health and water sanitation. LRF with trained mobilizers will support changes in communities’ cultural and social norms that will reinforce and maintain the intended positive health practices in Sekondi –Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly. In line with achieving the project objectives,

and also building on existing structures to achieve the millennium development goals 4 and 5, several activities were organized in the month of September.

These activities in summary included community mobilizers outreach activities, field visits by project staff, monitoring of mobilizers activities and district

stakeholders review meetings.

During the project under review, the total number of people educated in the communities was 149.519 project staff. With mentoring and family planning reaching a total of 1,319,056 people in western and central regions.

  • RESULT ACHIEVED

    • A total of 145,319,519 people were reached with the BCS project by the mobilizers.
    • A total of 1,319,056 were reached through special events.
    • Mobilizers have been able to turn their health groups and draw community maps and community action plans. They are working on looking at the reports submitted by forty-three (43) mobilizers.
    • Through the community mobilizers BCS Project 3, communities have now received waste bins. Additionally,

  • the assembly is putting up a Junior High School with nine (9) classrooms for one community. Also, a greater number of communities have successfully organized clean-up campaigns.
  • An indirect benefit of the BCS project borders on gender issues. One community is addressing the issues of gender stereotypes, spousal abuse and child neglect among other health issues.
