Construction of Child-Friendly Space and Child-Protection Space.

Child protection at Ivorian refugee camps

Life Relief Foundation continues to strengthen the capacity of volunteers in both camps to prevent and as well, respond to abuse and violence against children for a stronger and more protective environment in both camps.
The aim is to help children cope with adversity and overcome their traumatic experiences. LRF was conscious of the extreme circumstances these children were exposed to and adapted strategies to help protect children from violence, abuse and exploitation. During the period of project implementation, the trained volunteers were able to help prevent and respond to abuse and

violence among children through community outreach education and child-friendly space activities.
Through community outreach, behaviour change and communication activities via focus group discussions, one on one conversations, and radio discussions, three thousand and fifty six (3056) adults were reached with knowledge of the rights of the child and positive behaviours to protect children from abuse and violence.

The construction of child-friendly space activities reached a total number of two thousand two hundred and eight (2208) children.

These activities helped build a safety net to protect children. The large attendance at CFS indicates that children, parents and guardians in both camps liked and appreciated the activity at the CFS.

During an interaction with a community leader, he said, “My deviant child is now attending classes regularly because I have stopped beating her. Honestly, this project has been very helpful. It has changed the atmosphere of the camp, this is to say that, you can now see the happiness on the faces of children and even parents.”
